I started seeing this trend on Pinterest this year while I was getting some inspo for my Christmas decorating. The oranges looked so bright and fun and I loved how different the color looked for the holidays. While taking a trip to Costco I saw a box of oranges and figured I would give it a try. Let me say, making a dried orange garland was so easy! My toddler even helped a little, well she had fun eating some of the slices!
What you need:
- 5/6 oranges
- twine
- scissors
- cookie sheet
- parchment paper
- paper towels
- large needle or pen
- knife
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 250 degrees
- Line the cookie sheet with parchment paper. I used two cookie sheets at one so I lined both.
- Cut orange slices to 1/8 of and inch and place cookies sheet (if they are cut too thin they can burn)
- Dab excess moisture from orange slices with a few paper towels
- Place in oven for about 4 hours
- Flip slices every hour
- Let sit overnight
- Use needle to pock a hole in the orange slices and slide the twine through to make a garland. (I tied a knot at each. hole to keep the slice in place)
You can also add cranberries or wooden beads between the orange slices. I have seen the oranges close together or far apart, depending on what look you are going for there are many ways to make it your own!
I hung mine in my kitchen around a window and the way the light shines through the orange slices it adds such a fun look to my kitchen! I might add some ornament hooks and attach them to a cedar wreath I have in the kitchen as well.
As I said, this is such an easy DIY that is even fun for your kids to get involved!
