2 words “Barbie’s Motorhome”. Come on, you guys remember that right? (And FYI, they still make them incase you need to get one, which you probably do… ) Well that is when my love for all things interior design started. Oddly enough it wasn’t Barbies Dream house that did it for me, it was setting up a tiny home for Barbie and Ken, or her and Theresa, depending on the day I guess.
Did I know it at the time? No. Did I know it in college? No. But once my husband and I bought our first home (In Franklin Lakes, New Jersey… hey Real Housewives!) about 4 years ago that’s when I realllly realized it. Yes, growing up I was also always changing my bedroom around whether it was a new matching curtains/bedspread combo (LOL), moving things around, or making a DIY seashell mirror. Full disclaimer, some of my interest in making a space my own was because I also spent a large portion of my childhood in furniture stores with my mom, aunt and grandmother. My grandmother’s home was actually featured in a local newspaper for her decorating skills!
We did allot of renovating on our home the first year and once it was finished I started taking some pictures and posting them on Instagram. Never did I think these tiny squares were going to open my up to a world to some of the sweetest most empowering ladies and gents, not to mentions TONS of inspiration. I started to gain followers and had my posts featured on social media accounts for Pottery Barn, Better Homes and Gardens, TJ Maxx and Marshalls, which are some of my FAVORITE STORES! With that exposure I gained even more followers and began including some other lifestyle posts and DIY projects. Now there is only so much you can comment under a picture and I felt bad not being able to share a recipe or instructions for a project with my followers. So, after a while of saying “I am going to start a blog” I finally did it! I am so excited to be able to have a place to go into better detail about interior design, paint colors, places to buy items, DIY projects, recipes, style, and travel (Oh bc I LOVE to research hotels) ect..
I grew up in Central New Jersey, if you are from NJ then you might get the struggle, yes there is more than just a North and South Jersey. So no, I did not grow up at the “Jersey Shore”, although “the Situation” was from my town… I went to college at Monmouth University which IS at the shore and majored in Criminal Justice. I always loved crime novels and anything John Grisham, remember “The Firm?” Even though I love law I knew there was no way that I could do at least additional 4 years for law school. I was kind of all over the place, senior year I interned for a NJ Senator, then once I graduated I gave the fashion industry a try working for a gown designer and then landed in Insurance. During those years I also had my own business selling custom Swarovski crystal items, like flips flops, cell phone cases, and baby accessories. I even decided to cover my Christian Louboutin wedding shoes in Swarovski crystals a week before my wedding!
My husband and I met when I was a sophomore in college, during my DIY blonde highlights aka leopard spots phase and my husbands spikey blowout phase. ( I warned you we are from Jersey.) We have been married 4 years and together about 12, no kids yet but we do have one nasty fur baby, Lola the Chihuahua. We didn’t live together until 3 months after we got married, Im old school and didn’t want to move in together until we got married, I feel like it made getting married a little more special too. We were both lucky enough to have parents to allow us to hang with them that long! Although I’m sure if my mom had her way I would still be living at home, and I wouldn’t mind it! We finally found a home 3 months into our marriage and settled into a colonial in Franklin Lakes NJ. It’s a pretty quite town for being in Bergen County and only 15 miles from New York City.
Hopefully I did not completely bore you with my life but I wanted you guys to get to know me a little better! So, if you see me in a local Homegoods, TJ Maxx or Marshalls, which I embarrassingly am at a minimum of 3 times a week, say hi! OR send me and email and subscribe to my blog! I am so excited you are here and would love to chat more!
